Currane Community Website and on TG4

15 September 2007, Currane, Achill, Co. Mayo

The Currane Community Website - - and will be featured on TG4's Nuacht tonight at 7pm. "We are delighted and grateful that TG4 have chosen to feature our websites. We hope that this exposure will demonstrate what can be achieved in a remote corner of the country" said Jane Steger-Lewis, the creative inspiration behind the web sites., the Currane Community Website, was launched in 2000 for the people of Currane, their relatives and friends, anyone born in Currane but now living elsewhere, and anyone with a connection to Currane. The site aims to provide news about Currane and the people of Currane whether in Currane or around the world; to preserve our heritage by providing a photographic archive of life in Currane; to provide historical and tourist information about Currane; to provide a forum for discussion; to publicise events in the region, local societies and local businesses. is financed entirely by Jane & Alistair. was launched in 2007 as a form of 'social network' where users can create various types of Lifelist. A Lifelist is our personal list of our lives; all of our favourite things, people, places, sights, sounds and sensations. Things we've done and things we want to do. Our goals in life and the achievements we are most proud of. In other words, a Lifelist is a list of the important things in our life, the things that make us who we are.

Jane, whose family is from Currane, moved to 'home' from London, England in 2000 with her husband Alistair Steger-Lewis, the programmer responsible for implementing Jane's ideas. They are both extremely grateful to Minister Eamon O'Cuiv who provided funding through the Clar scheme for a community broadband scheme in Currane, without which they would find it almost impossible to work in such a deprived rural area.
